Purchasing Office Provides Training and Support to Administrators and Managers

May 15, 2006

Administrators managing bid requests, requisitions, consultant agreements, or any other purchasing-related tasks can receive onsite purchasing training tailored to meet their specific department needs. "This is the perfect way for schools and departments to train new staff members and transitioned staff or offer a refresher in purchasing procedures and systems," said Hugh Horowitz, Executive Director of Purchasing Operations. "We go to departments directly to provide training in areas they're most interested in understanding in order to make it easier for them to get what they need, when they need it."

The Purchasing Office holds regularly scheduled training seminars twice a year through the Human Resources Training calendar, but for the first time is now offering tailored training specific to departments and commodities. The sessions are run by Purchasing Office managers, who are familiar with the commodities departments wish to order and the systems and procedures required to place those orders. "We can make these customized training sessions as long or short as time permits," said Horowitz.

To arrange a departmental training session, contact Jennifer Weiner, Director of Business Services, at jw2392@columbia.edu or 212-851-2756.
